Suicidal Tendencies is an American crossover thrash band, formed in 1981 in Venice, California by lead singer Mike Muir. They started as a punk rock band, but have been playing thrash metal and/or funk metal since their late 1980's material. Along with D.R.I. and Corrosion of Conformity, Suicidal Tendencies have been credited for creating the crossover thrash genre, and are perhaps best known for their 1983 hit "Institutionalized", which was one of the first crossover metal videos to receive substantial airplay on MTV. The band is also notable for including current Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, who played in Suicidal Tendencies from 1989 to 1995.
